it has been such a joy-filled week here at KidzPrints Preschool Narrabeen. As the Lunar New Year approaches, our classroom has transformed into a vibrant hub of red, gold, and cultural discovery!

At KidzPrints, we believe that celebrating diverse traditions helps our children grow into global citizens. This year, we’ve been busy exploring the rich customs of the Lunar New Year through hands-on play and storytelling.

Storytime & Traditions

We began our journey by sharing the story of the Lunar New Year. The children were fascinated to learn about the Reunion Dinner, the significance of the Red Envelopes (Hongbao) given by elders, and the magical glow of lanterns during the Lantern Festival.

Celebrating the Year of the Horse

Since it is the Year of the Horse, we added a special twist to our activities!

  • Eco-Friendly Fun: Using recycled cardboard boxes, we created our very own horses.

  • Fine Motor Skills: The children practiced "feeding the horses," a wonderful activity for their hand-eye coordination.

  • Playdough Creativity: Our tables were filled with colorful playdough, allowing the children to strengthen their fine motor muscles while creating festive shapes.

A Classroom Transformation

Our learning environment is currently a sea of red! The children helped us decorate with lanterns and firecrackers, creating an immersive atmosphere.

  • Calligraphy: The children even tried their hand at writing Chinese characters to create their own Spring Couplets. It was amazing to see them focus on the intricate strokes of the brushes!

Art & Sensory Play

One of the highlights was our Lion Dance mask activity.

  • Using spoons to scoop colorful beans, the children "decorated" the lion’s face. This sensory experience is fantastic for precision and patience.

  • Dress-up Joy: There was so much excitement as the children tried on traditional Chinese hats and "Gege" headbands. Seeing their smiles while embracing these cultural symbols was truly heartwarming.

Wishing Our Families a Happy New Year!

We are so proud of how our students enjoyed and respected these traditions. At KidzPrints Preschool Narrabeen, we value the connection between home, school, and the wider world.

To all our families and children, we wish you a year filled with health, happiness, and prosperity.
