A Roarsome Day of Discovery: Kidz Prints Visits the Australian Museum

At Kidz Prints, we believe children learn through curiosity, exploration, and real-world experiences. Recently, our children had the opportunity to visit the Australian Museum for an exciting day of discovery — and the dinosaurs were definitely a highlight!
The moment the children arrived, the excitement was clear:
“Dino! Dino! I saw it!”
For many of our children, seeing dinosaur skeletons and fossils up close was a memorable experience. Instead of simply seeing pictures of dinosaurs in books, they could stand beside them, observe their enormous bones, and begin to imagine what these incredible creatures may have been like millions of years ago.
Discovering More Than Dinosaurs
While the dinosaurs captured plenty of attention, the children soon discovered that there was so much more to explore at the museum.
They observed fossils, animal skeletons and displays featuring animals that once lived on our planet. The children were encouraged to look closely, ask questions, share their ideas, and talk about what they were discovering.
One of the children excitedly pointed out different dinosaurs and shared:
“I like dinosaurs.”
They also recognised a Triceratops and a T-Rex, while discussing what different dinosaurs might have eaten.
Learning New Words Through Exploration
One particularly lovely moment came when an educator asked:
“And what do we call meat eaters, Ollie?”
After thinking about it, Ollie answered:
“Carnivore?”
“Carnivores! Well done!”
This is a wonderful example of how excursions can turn everyday experiences into meaningful learning opportunities. New vocabulary becomes easier to understand when children can connect words with something they can see, explore, and talk about.
The children also noticed dinosaur footprints and began thinking about how these giant animals may have moved and lived.
When Learning Comes to Life
For young children, learning is not limited to books, worksheets, or the classroom.
A museum visit gives children the opportunity to experience concepts in a completely different way. They can observe real objects, ask questions, make connections, and learn from the people and environment around them.
Most importantly, they can follow their own curiosity.
For our children, the excitement of seeing a T-Rex, Triceratops, fossils and animal skeletons created countless opportunities for conversation and discovery.
Their enthusiastic reactions reminded us that sometimes the most meaningful learning begins with a simple:
“Look! I saw it!”
